Hypnotic Streams -- Seventh-century sounds of the shō creep into the microphone. Wood and wax breathe first, carrying nourishment from an old world into the present ear. Their sound is slow, porous, human. As foil, the Fryprone waits in manufactured stillness, all metal and tension, a future object pretending to be calm.
Fabio Rambelli is an academic and a musician active in Italy, Japan, and the US. He plays the shō and the rare u (Japanese mouthorgans). He specializes in contemporary music, avant jazz and improvisatory contexts, and has released four CDs (deep ambient, contemporary art music, free jazz) with various units.
Dirk Stromberg is an improvising musician and instrument builder whose performances revolve around spontaneous collaboration. Performing on his custom electroacoustic instruments, including the Fryprone, he explores raw energy, texture, and interaction. His work bridges free improvisation, experimental sound, and physical performance across solo, ensemble, and telematic contexts.
